Business Flyer

Business Flyer

I decided to make a flyer for my dream ballet company’s summer dance intensive workshop. I included a summary of what it consists of, where it will be held, and when it will occur. For the image of the dancer I decided to find a photo of a ballerina and I used the clipping path and put black inside of the image. For the dates of the summer program I used the pen tool to draw a line that mirrored the dancer’s leg and added text to the line. To bring in color and shapes I added different sizes of rectangles behind the dancer. Each rectangle is a different shade of pink and has a feather effect. My design is simple and straight forward; I used different positions of texts to make it interesting to the reader.

CD Cover

CD Cover

I created a CD cover for my friend Rico’s rap album (fake). For the front cover picture I used Photoshop to change the background black and white and made the sunglasses green and blue so they would stand out. I added text to the line I created against the picture to give it a unique look. For the text I used Broadway font in bold on the –tion portion to break up the consistency. For the rectangles beside and below the picture I created a new gradient that goes from green to blue to match the glasses in the picture. For the back cover of the CD I placed a picture of dog tags behind the text and lowered the transparency. The background also has the same gradient as the front cover. For the record label I placed a picture of an eagle and used the clipping path to create the outline and just made it black. I used the line tool to place text and name the record label.

Swan Lake Postcard

For the postcard design I wanted to keep it simple. I kept a black border around a picture of the dancers in the ballet Swan Lake; I changed the transparency and made it black and white. For the image above I found a full body picture of a ballerina dancing the role of Odette and modified it in Photoshop. I used the magnetic lasso tool to trace the outline of the dancer and cropped the picture so it would stop at her waist. I placed the modified picture into Indesign and placed an outer shadow and an inner glow. I wanted the text to be readable and also soft and elegant so it would relate to the ballet. For the title “Swan Lake” I also placed an outer shadow to make it standout but not over power the ballerina.

Sawdust Festival

Poster

In the poster for The Sawdust Festival I wanted to incorporate works of artists in the festival but keep it simple and easy to read. After looking at the website I decided to make the background green due to the dominance of the color on the web page. I used a painted of John Eagle’s for the 2nd layer and had it screened with a green to yellow gradient. Because the name of the festival is Sawdust and they have woodcarving I wanted to incorporate a saw blade into the design. It is only a half of the saw and it is located on the upper half of the page. On the inside of the saw I used Judy Baker’s painting, which has very nice greens, blues and whites that give a contrast to the John Eagle piece. I also applied a shadow behind the saw. There is also a caption inside of the saw stating “The highlight of your summer” which I found on the website in the overview.
